  • ot: Race fans unite, lets start a petition for Redbull to build the X1 Prototype!

Feel free to move to the Tech forum, but who elso wants to see this bad boy built and run?

Adrian Newey's latest creation is capable of beating the Formula One lap record at Suzuka by a staggering margin of 20 seconds.

Red Bull Technology's top-secret X1 Prototype, tested around the Japanese circuit in virtual reality by Sebastian Vettel, was created for the new PlayStation game Gran Turismo 5.

Newey's challenge was to create a virtual car for the game's November release not bound by any set of regulations.
I know it would never race, but I'd love to see this creation lap a circuit faster than any car before it.

And then a tire blows up and the driver dies. Sorry, some rules are there for a good reason.

That could happen now, with any car. Correct?

lol, it's a game. Gran Tourismo at that. IF and WHEN a REAL CAR does a REAL LAP at a REAL TRACK 20 seconds faster than anything else this article will be relevant to anything other than selling games.

I hope it's a great game and you guys have some fun with it. Play with the config file to your hearts content, because that is the only "gray area" that Newey is pushing here.

Heres a video of it: http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo...totype-teaser/

Congrats, Adrian, you designed the Allard!

              http://www.mulsannescorner.com/allardj2xstory-2.html

All snark aside, this is just someone doing some light theory-crafting for a pretty in game product. Really, the fact that Adrian chose the design he did tells me he wasn't interested in REALLY functioning with no rules... Just lighter rules. Because theres a lot in the way of active aerodynamics and suspensions, let alone crazy stuff like powered ground effects and tire size/shape alteration, that I don't see him touching.

Exactly. He's "built" a car that goes fast in a "virtual" world ruled by imaginary physics. For all anyone knows, it may even use "cheat codes" to bypass limits imposed by Gran Tourismo's programming. Like Kirk beating the Kobayashi Maru.

That would be one of the reasons I'd like to see the real car get built. Maybe it would lap 20 seconds faster than an f1, but it would be significantly faster as longer as the driver could physically take the loads.

It makes the braking zones so short that there would never be any passing.
Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary… that's what gets you.
