  • DeSilvestro Accident

I know that there is a very long thread on the subject, but, they said something on the Motegi broadcast I had not heard before. They said that her engine was still running after the accident and pumping more oil out of the car.

Now, another question. On midgets and sprint cars there is an outside kill button on the car. Track crew can shut off the engine. I have never heard about something similar on Indy Cars or stock cars.

I am pretty sure there is something in the left side of the car just behind the driver's head.

OK, found a couple pics for you. Look just above the IUPUI logo, there is an "E" in a red circle. Just to the right of that is a red handle. Pull that and you shut off the electronics to the car. No electrical, no engine.

Another very of the red thing you pull out.

I vaguely remember rrrr mentioning something about the engine still running in one of those threads. Of course, as far as the the whole responding crew pulling the shut-off deal to kill the engine...you have to actually approach the car to do that. And initially, they all stayed back to mess with the hose.

I am also not clear on when exactly the engine was shut-off, or who shut it off, or if it just killed itself.

The lightening sticker should signal the kill switch. I think the E is for fire extinguisher?

Pulling the red handle kills all power and triggers the fire system.
