  • Slightly O/T: Spam or Not?

I just got an e-mail with an attachment I didn't open from:

    Mario Andretti [[email protected]]

    for an F-1 fantasy league.

Is this 'legit' spam, or something harboring a virus from the same folks who subscribed me to every known gay porn site on the Internet because they didn't like my opinions?

    A. The real Mario would probably be about as sour about the fake use of his name as he is about the burgeoning success of the IRL.

    B. Does anyone have an effective way to block this kind of [email protected] from polluting my in box, other than wearing my right index finger out from hitting the delete key?

    Much obliged.

    got the same email

A gift from your friends at ***. It came to an email address that I have used in only a very few places (4 or 5) and none of the others are even remotely racing oriented. Nor is the email address a "mainstream" one.

Oh, and BTW - just who do you think might regularly and prominently promote the Mario game?

    Yep . . .

I know there is a real fantasy league that Mario is involved with, that you have to pay to join!

So it is probably "real" spam, but I would still delete it!

Did it come with a promise of a bottle of whine?

Took my name off the list ( not sure how I got on it in the first place ).
          Deleted it.
