I wore my gray t-shirt with the giant IRL logo on it to the Denver Grand Prix activities today. In addition, I wore my blue IRL hat that Zen's friend gave us at PPIR. The officials at the track did not like it.
I did, however, mingle with several real fans with whom I had a great time. That's the thing about these 'races.' It doesn't ever get contentious.
The only people getting contentious were Speed personnel when I tried to horn in on camera shots in my special attire, and officials formerly based in Troy who wondered how I got the A-list pass.
They really do the street carnival thing well. I wish Tony would fund development of real, purpose-built natural road course in some of the seedier areas down in that neighborhood. It'd be perfect. There's redevelopment galore, and it would be profitable. It'd make a really nice IRL race.
Which brings me to my next issue. In the Rocky Mountain News today, there was an article by a writer named Lisa Levitt Ryckman. I'm too lazy to link it, but the site is www.insidedenver.com, I think. Anyway, she kept mentioning that the cars racing there were 'Indy Cars.' I let her know that those cars do not run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and that real Indy cars in Colorado may be found at PPIR.
Good time today, with lots of sun...but not a lot of people. Which is probably why they were literally walking down the streets in Denver giving tickets away. I can't blame them, given the preoccupation with such numbers Mr. Pook has.
