  • Is the 2002 Chevy a dog?

Looks like most of top speed from the morning are in last-years' Olds and Infinitis. Could the new Chevy's have a powerband problem? I doubt it, but those results are interesting...

OK, dog just posted on another thread that Penske is running the 2002 engine -- which wasn't the case at Fontana. So this may be a red herring?

I was just listening to them on Ku Band satellite and they didn't sound like they were turning the RPM's that the Old's are turning.

Just an observation. I'm sure someone who is actually there would have a better idea.

FYI I was speaking of the Kelly cars. The Penske cars sounded like they were cranking.

The motors are fairly new. they are also running (if I am correct) the new extra injector nozzle. That has an enormous effect on the engine's power band and maybe the teams just don't have the gearing just right.

remember that buddy Lazier turned a 225 at fontana after they had run a 500 mile simulation. But the good news is that there are plenty of last year's motors hanging around just in case.
          I'm dead now.

The extra injector doesn't get added until 2003.

I think I said that Penske was running the 2001 Olds version because Kelly got the only 2 Chevys that Illmor had done. If I said something different then it must have come out wrong because I know better. Then again I mihgt have had a "senior moment"

Well, at least according to the live timing website, there are no Oldsmobiles out there.

Well, that isn't true either, Mo Nunn's team had a "02, as did Buzz, who blew it up at Fontana. My information was "customers first!"

Huh. So are they calling the 2001 Olds a "Chevy" now, or is everyone running the 2002 Chev? (Infiniti guys excepted, of course)

aren't the 2001 olds now rebadged as Chevy, hence the T & S report that all are chevy's?

Whups, sorry Dog! I meant to say that Cam King said, "Penske is running the Chevys", not the Olds.
