  • What is your Favorite Indy Car Racing Sim?

For me it really has to be Indy Car Racing II.

With all of the add-ons available on the internet I have car sets for every year of the IRL, and a season schedule of 30 oval tracks with 39 drivers at each race. And the season goes from January to December!

2nd pick would be the ABC Road to Indianapolis game.

And when are we going to get a NEW Indy Car sim for the PC? How many versions of Nascar Racing does this world need?

I agree that ICR II is still the best Indy Car sim out there. The ABC game is disappointing at best. It seems they could have put a little more effort into it and come up with a much more playable game. In fact I removed it from my hard drive long ago and it is on the shelf collecting dust. However all racing sims pale in comparison with Grand Prix Legends. I play this one almost daily and still enjoy the heck out of it. The new Nascar 4 is based on the GPL physics engine and is the best of the long line of Nascar sims. I would hope that Papyrus would come up with some sort of CART or IRL sim based on the GPL physics engine. How about a Indy Legends or something like that?

The Indy 500 game for the Atari 2600. I think I'll pick one up on Ebay.
      It's a Hoosier thing, you wouldn't understand...

For a pure racing sim, Grand Prix Legends is hard to beat. Sure would be nice to have a sim like that for the Indy Cars (hint, hint).

Heck, I still have the original Indy 500 sim from 1989 on my computer, remember that one?

I agree that ICR2 is the best Indycar sim ever, GPL is for sure the most advanced, but you miss the oval racing on it (even with the converted ovals, those cars were not made for that kind of racing).

The problem with papyrus/sierra was the fact that NASCAR fans are a bigger market compared to OW. So they decided to get some profits, leaving us all with empty hands. Imagine an IRL or CART simulator with the N4 engine...

I also remeber Indy500 game for Electronics Arts, it was made by papyrus too, and it was a very advanced racing game for that time.

It's good to remember those games that gave us so much fun...

Hey, a lot of people around the world still love ICR2, and created a lot of add ons to change the shapes of the cars, convert tracks fron NASCAR racing games, customize some things, etc. Maybe you will find over there some of my stuff

                PDMfan...

                Try this site:
                http://irlinsider.adnetweb.com/

and then click on the box at the bottom that says: "IRL Insider Sim Site"

They have a whole section of add-ons for the ICR2 game and a section on the ABC Road to the Indy 500 game.

I love that 1989 Sim. Still the best one for Indy to date, I think. GPL is great but I wish they'd included the Monza high banks with it.

They do. It's called the Grand Prix Legends Track Converter. It allows you to take the track data from many popular sims and convert them for use with GPL.

I bought mine a year ago and it's great.

Once you've raced GPL, everything else is a joke.

And don't knock the oval conversions - it's plenty challenging to be fast, but not burn up your tires.

Nascar 4 (with the GPL physics engine) is fun, and is the only thing comparable, in my book.

I always preferred N3. I never had a chance to play ICR2, and just kind of forgot it after all the graphic improvements in the NASCAR game. I still have the original PSone Papy release. I loved GPL, but the terms and tweaks were entirely different. I never got the handle.

With the PSII release, I have GT3 and its pretty good. The Psygnosis (Sony Liverpool) F1 game was released for the PS2 on Wed. It is going to be the best game out there if the graphics compare to GT3. I didn't ever get a wheel that I liked for the PC. With the PS2 I still use an old MadCatz wheel. Its the newest one they released. Its good cuz' it is designed to sit on your lap, in combination with a sofa seat.

I'm awaiting a game for the IRL, but love the road courses on F1 games. Seems there hasn't been a good CART game since ICR2
