  • What are your hopes and expectations of this coming IRL season?

Since there's less than 12 days 'til the start of Miami I thought it'd be nice to hear what many of your hopes are for the season.

Mine are in no specific order:

    1) All the teams, the league, and the fans have a SAFE and prosperous season.

    2) May the best owner/driver combo win the IRL Championship.

    3) May the best and most deserving owner/driver combo win the 86th Indianapolis 500.

    4) Higher awareness of Brianswish and ALS!

    5) More full time sponsors, and growth.

I am really looking forward to the 2002 season and the IRL race at Michigan.

2002 will be a great year for the IRL!

A fast, safe season to all.

And let's see a full-time IRL driver/team take the Indy 500 this year!

My expectations are not really that high. Just be the most exciting form of auto racing on the planet. That's all.

A long standing IRL team will win Indy...and the championship...

        My expectation:

        It ain't gonna happen...see Penske...

Is that like saying when players are traded from the Detroit Tigers to the New York Yankees that if the Yankees win the World Series they really aren't wining it, it is still the Tigers?

          Just wondering..............

OK, this is more hope than expectation, but...

              1. Full season rides for Unser, Dismore, Fisher, and Dare. (Expectation: Only one of these three will compete in every IRL race this year. One won't drive at all. One will do Indy only.)

              2. First win for Filipe Giaffone. (Expectation: This will happen!)

              3. Buddy Lazier winning Indy and putting the critics to rest. (Expectation: DeFerran!)

              4. Eddie Cheever winning the Championship and putting the critics to rest. (Expectation: I can't even begin to make a call on this one.)

              5. Sponsor's galore for everybody! (Expectation: 3 or more IRL teams will not be able to complete the season.)

My hope and expectation is that the leadership and participants of the Indy Racing League keep taking it one lap at a time...

BTW, Mackie - I don't see any comments from you in this thread addressing the topic...

I only see in your post above what's obviously become a baitbiter occupation to you: following hdolan around from thread to thread as he strolls throughout the forum tossing tiny morsels of minnows to those you are so eager to be hooked...

FOR THE RECORD: Someone please post some type of evidence establishing anything but subjection to the myth that 2000 Indianapolis 500 champion Juan Montoya and/or 2001 Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves have not abetted the IRL and the Indianapolis 500 in the last two years...

Fans always want their respective home teams to prevail...that's why they're called fans.

The objective truth of the matter, however, is that an IRL driver/team will win both the Indianapolis 500 and the IRL championship in 2002.

I can in no way see how any logical Indy car fan could deem it bad for the IRL if Team Penske swept both...

And consider this: Michael Andretti is going to have as good a shot at the Speedway this year than he ever has had before - if he happens to end up in P1 after 500 miles, the relevant celebration pertains to him and his team, the running of another great Indianapolis 500 and the strengthening of the Indy Racing League.

It's fans and desperate scribes who'll dissect that celebration into pieces according to their own subjective tastes.

And, Mackie - you really shouldn't eat so much fish...

                Out.

                  My Expectations:

                  1. A clean, exciting year that maintains the steady growth of the IRL & IPS.

                  2. I agree with manson, I expect Felipe to win his first IRL race this year.

                  3. I expect a rivarly to develop between Castroneves and Hornish.

                  4. I expect alot from the IPS in terms of driver development and encouraging new teams and sponsors.

                  5. I expect a free case of Red Bull from Cheever!

                    1. Donnie Beechler becomes amultiple event winner in the IRL.

                    2. The IRL keeps racing just the way they did last year. Breathtaking!

My respose is my honest belief...I believe Penske is head and shoulders above the rest...I hope I'm wrong...

                          My #1 Hope:

Paul Page gets fired before Indy and Bob Jenkins is returned to his rightful and EARNED spot.

Can't believe no one beat me to this.

#2: Sharp, Ray AND Unser get full time rides at Kelley, Ward gets the CGR job, Buzz tabs Diz and Walker gets out his wallet again and runs Sarah the whole season.

My hope is for another fast and, hopefully safer year!
I hope the Indy 500 is a much better race than yesterday's extravaganza, which shouldn't be too difficult.
                            Have a very blessed day!

That the top IRL teams are able to run competitively with the Penske team. A blow out by Penske would be very bad.
