  • Anyone Familiar w/ Lot 3 Grass Parking?

I came across a face value parking pass to Lot 3G, normally I arrive earlier enough to get parking in the infield for free and the tailgating is always good in there...the biggest downfall to the infield parking is that you are the last ones out of the track when leaving.

So my overall question is has anyone parked in Lot 3 grass? How is the pre-race atmosphere? How fast is the exit from the track? And overall do you think its worth a 20 investment over the free infield. The other thing I liked about the thought of Lot 3 is that we enter the track near the Muesum and all that fun stuff in the morning so it gives us more to see and walk around in during pre race also.
RIP Dan Wheldon - Thanks for the memories.

I think I have if that is the one accross the street from the southeast vista and the brickyard Motel.

Obviously if you have parked in the infield you are used to getting there early. You'll need to do the same to utilize that pass. One year i wasn't even able to use it because we didn't get going early enough and they had 16th street shut down due to traffic.

The atmosphere when i parked there two years in a row seemed a little subdued. I don't know if it was because cops are swarming all over 16th street and this lot is close there -maybe not.

One of the years we left immediately after the checkered flag dropped, hustled accross the street and exited out onto 16th street heading east. Took an immediate right on the street that goes south past the big fuel storage tanks and hustled down to washington street, caught I-70 to I-65 and we were north of I 465 on I-69 before those who we knew stayed and watched the victory lane celebration even got to thier cars west of the Coke lot.

I doubt it has anything to do with local law enforcement. Tailgating is the last thing they seem worried about on race morning.

Why wouldn't you park in the North 40?

I've parked in lot 3 for about 10 years, most years the atomosphere has been really good I do recall two years ago it was dead though. As far as leaving the track you can't beat it, if you hustle back you can get out onto 16th street before they close it for people traffic and you can take 16th essentially all the way back to I-65.

We come in from the south side of the track, due to where we live making the North 40 not really an interesting option...if we want free we will just park inside, however the idea of getting out somewhat fast is intriging.

As a resident of Speedway, let me tell you that you should always ask , if you park in some ones yard, if they will block you in. I dont block people in the yard, but some of my neighbors have no qualm about the almighty $$ opposed to your hurry to get out in a timely fashion.....hmmm maybe thats why the same people come to my yard year in and year out. Im sold out as far as parking spots though.
