  • Attn Chicago area Indy fans

I'm officially moving to Joliet next week. How long will it take me to make it to IMS from now on? Even if you're from another part of Chicagoland, how long does it take from, say, the IL/IN state line on 80/94? Is it faster to shoot down I-65 or just take I-57 to Champaign and I-74 over to Indy?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to meeting up with a bunch of fellow TFers over the coming years.

        Been doin it since 1956...

        Figure three hours.
        I'm in Plainfield...
        Three hours...
You can take 80 east to 65 and then south to Indy....
Always a pain through Indiana's northwest corner....
        (has been since 65 opened)
only alternative is 80/94 east to Halstead (rt 1) then south to 52 and then east through Kentland to 65 and then south...
Avoids the 80/94 mess around Hammond....

Zooom, I'm in very north Joliet, almost in Plainfield. We'll be close-by.

I go from Indy to Naperville and it takes about 3 hours 15 minutes. If I don't want to deal with traffic try Illinois state road 47 south to Mohammed, IL. Then I-74 to Indy. That will take about 4 hours, but no traffic and good scenery.

department of Transportation will close I-65 between I-80/94 and 15th Avenue for approximately nine months beginning around March 1st for construction.
Access from 15th Ave. to I-65 south will be closed for the time being. Access from I-65 south to 15th Ave. and access from 15th Ave. to I-65 north will remain open, as will the ramps from I-65 north to eastbound or westbound I-80/94 and the ramp from I-80/94 east to I-65 south.
This is the second of three reconstructions in the works for I-65 where it crosses over I-80/94. The first, currently underway, addresses interchange work south of I-80/94 and the third includes adding travel lanes to I-80/94 under I-65 and is scheduled to begin in 2009.
                    The nine-month closure will include:
Approximately 1.5 miles of I-65 from the bridge over I-80/94 to 15th Ave.
                    The ramp from I-80/94 W.B. to I-65 N.B.
                    The ramp from I-80/94 W.B. to I-65 S.B.
                    The ramp from I-80/94 E.B. to I-65 N.B.
                    Detour routes for I-65:
                    I-65 N.B. to 15th Ave. – take I-80/94 E.B. to State Road 51 (S.R. 51) N.B. to U.S. 12/20 W.B. to I-65 S.B. to 15th Ave.
                    I-65 N.B. to U.S. 12/20 – take I-80/94 E.B. to S.R. 51 N.B. to U.S. 12/20
                    I-65 S.B. from U.S. 12/20 – take U.S. 12/20 E.B. to S.R. 51 S.B. to I-80/94 W.B. to the ramps at State Road 53 (Broadway) to I-80/94 E.B. to I-65 S.B.
                    Detour routes for I-80/94:
                    I-80/94 W.B. or W.B. to I-65 N.B. – take S.R. 51 N.B. to U.S. 12/20 W.B. to I-65
                    I-80/94 W.B. to I-65 S.B. – continue on I-80/94 W.B. to the ramps at S.R. 53 (Broadway) to I-80/94 E.B. to I-65 S.B.
Detour routes for the Indiana Toll Road:
                    I-65 N.B. to Indiana Toll Road E.B. – take I-80/94 E.B. to Indiana Toll Road E.B.
I-65 N.B. to Indiana Toll Road W.B. – take I-80/94 to State Road 912 (Cline Avenue) W.B. to Indiana Toll Road W.B.
                    Indian Toll Road E.B. to I-65 S.B. – take S.R. 912 (Cline Ave.) E.B. to I-80/94 E.B. to I-65 S.B.

I believe that is "Mahomet" I only live 5 miles from there now so I'm very familar with IL 47. That's how I get to Chicago whenever I go now.

Hey, I hear ya. I actually head south on Broadway. Pretty sad that I'd rather go through Gary to avoid 65 and 80-94
