  • Day3 Practice thread

Figured I would put it up early for all to discuss.<I hate working days>

MY guess for today is a fast lap of 227<with tow> by AGR prolly TK
The KV duo will be up to 225-226 by days end and there will be 2-3 on track accidents. 1 by Roth racing <I hope not though> Marty just seems to like the wall here and after watching Jay the last 2 days at the track im not liking his line much. the other im thinking will come from 1 of the big 3. Just guessing though no real reason behind it other than I think they will be pushing hard due to the weather the next cpl days.

The biggest dissapointment will be in Penske, Im guessing they wont be up to speed as quick as the other big teams.

Biggest surprise, Vision will have all 3 cars in the 225-226 range with AJ leading the way.<Yes I know they have been strong all year so it isnt really a surprise>

Anyone else have any takes on how today will end up?

    Marco is the fastest.

With the weather forecast for the next two days, I predict a VERY busy day today.

I look for TCGR to be 1-2 on the speed charts at the 6:00 gun.

I agree, TCGR will be fastest during practice, but where did they go last year for quals?

It would be very difficult to not look at what we have seen on the ovals thus far in 2008. Wheldon, Dixon and Kanaan should be top three, but Danica does know how to get around this track fairly quickly so I put her as the 4th quick for the day.
Anyone that follows IndyCar racing over the years should know better to count out the Penske machines for running up front when it counts (pole day and race day--sans 1995).
I am very impressed with Alex Lloyd and believe he will only get better and faster.
I was a little bit demoralized on the last laps, but I saw on the last lap that he was driving a little bit carefully, and I thought I might be able to surprise him. It was risky, but it worked." --Alex Zanardi, 09/08/96

Im not counting Penske out for pole day, I just think they will come out slow/sandbaggin. Come Sat. I look for them to be in the thick of it for the Pole.

She's also outqualified all three of her teammates on both ovals this year, if that means anything.

Should be busy today for sure. I think TK and Helio lead the way in the upper 225 range. Danica and Marco will be right there, too. I look for Dixon and Wheldon to do a little sandbagging this year. Not show their hand too early after what happened last year. And I think Wilson and Power may come close to keeping pace with the fast guys. Although Vision has been fast at other tracks, I think losing Curry is going to hurt them, at least initially.

He just might, it wouldn't surprise me.

Biggest question for me is, will there be a car outside the big three on the front row after Saturday?

I think there might be some surprises in store for us!

Sad thing is that Honda will dictate how fast they will go. I say 225, just like last year.

I'd be surprised if speeds were above 226 ... someone may get a Happy Hour tow on new tires at the end of the day, but I'm more interested to see the lap on lap times, not just a one-off. The top consistent lap times over the last 2 days were around the 220-221 mark. I suspect the equivalent times today from the top teams will be around 223-224

Yeah, honda directly dictates the speed, but I think it is Barnhardt who indirectly dictates it. He doesn't want them going in the 230's which is too bad. Need to get him out of there, but Cotman in.
