It's the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race. The 100th anniversary should be the same distance as the previous 94 races - 500 miles.

He could (and should) throw in a lot more attractions around the race than usual, but keep the distance the same.

500 miles is plenty long enough. Maybe make the prize money some ridiculous amount though.....say 5 million. 100 dollars for every mile since the first race.

I'd be happy if they just added 50 or so more laps to the rest of the ovals.
...been there, done that, tasted the champagne.

Now that is what I am talking about.

$500 to every man, woman and child in attendance.

Share the wealth. Give back to the fans.

Just for the purpose of discussion:

500x2.5=1,250 miles. Call it an average speed of 160 MPH and that gives us roughly 7 hours and 49 minutes. We're probably looking at at least one driver change. So we would need at least 66 different drivers. Think a field of 33 Indy cars would even last that long?

No need to assume. 6 + hours of racing with the current bathroom facilities available at the speedway?

                      I don't think so.

So, Al Michaels gets Madden to assist and they finish it on Monday Night Racing...

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

What about a vintage 500 mile race a day before real 500? Build cars like those in 1911 and race (sort like rat rods)...

                            Not exactly 1911...

                              1000 miles might be interesting.
"An emphasis was placed on drivers with road racing backgrounds which meant drivers from open wheel, oval track racing were at a disadvantage. That led Tony George to create the IRL." -Indy Review 1996
