  • Best Blocked Pass You Have Ever Seen

Another thread is discussing the best pass, let's think about the best block.

    I'm torn:

Johncock blocking Mears to win Indy.

Al Jr. blocking Goodyear to win Indy.

Eliseo Salazar on Eddie Cheever at Texas

      I call Johncock's a "chop".

Al jr. throwing that quick weave may have actually made a difference. It was pretty good.

The best would be Dan Wheldon in '04 driving Rice/Hornish (cant remember) to the grass on the backstretch.

-Then turning the car over in the short shoot after the blocked car got by.
In loving memory of three of the best!

        -Scott Brayton
        -Tony Renna
        -Dan Wheldon

Marco at Indy (It didn't stick though)

How about Marco slamming the door on Hornish in turn 3 at Indy. I swear I thought that sealed it for him. (So did Marco!)

              You took my answer!
I'm pretty sure it was Hornish that Wheldon was blocking down the backstretch just before he missed turn 3 and fliped it.
I sit in turn 3 and saw that take shape. Wheldon learned an important lesson that day.

Yeah. A big gutsy one for sure.

But it just reminded me of Gordy's on Mears and Gordy ended up with the win, so to me Johncock's is better. And even more gutsy I think, since it was a solid chop whereas Andretti sort of just took the low line earlier. Andretti had the line, Johncock really didn't but took it anyway.

So Marco's could be "best block in an ultimately losing effort."

Is there such a thing as a "good" block? I have always been a fan of picking a line and sticking to it.

Nascar from beginning to present....Has there been a clean pass in that sport?

Prime Example Dale Earnhardt throwing a block that took him all the way to the grave.

Kevin Cogan blocking the entire field at the start of the 1982 Indianapolis 500 has to be up there as well. While wrecking into AJ & Mario.

                              Not long enough though.
