Guess that answers that question. But I still think that official instruction must only come from the flagstand.

so let me get this straight...you don't black flag him and cost him 3 or 4 spots, plus the points...you tell him he can't practice on a road course that he knows like the back of his hand.

okay, so what is the punishment going to be?
if the new plan is, go ahead, do whatever now, we will penalize you later, how about restarting the race with the vision cars up front.
seriously, this is a joke, barnhart loses more and more credibility every week. why not let roger, pat patrick, and the other owner decide the rules...wait, that was 73...

In some ways I agree. Barnhart does not impress me with his follow through most of the time. He talks a big game though.

Title of the thread should be "TK gets wrist slap for Homestead".

I would have done what TK did. Although he should have gotten lower on the track. He gambled that he would incur no significant penalty and he was right.

...I concur. In the span of about three years I've gone from thinking there was no man better for the job to now thinking he's not the man for the job at all.

I would have done what he did, too! ABSOLUTELY...I was ranting to my dad that he would win under yellow, no reason to pull over if you can keep the pace of the race. BUT as soon as they said they were going green, he should have pulled over, OR they should have stopped counting his laps (Goodyear at Indy comes to mind). If it was Milka, or Vitor, or anyone not on the Big 3, they would have been black flagged, NO QUESTION. Can you imagine Jimmy Kite getting away with that...NOPE!

I agree the punishment should have been more severe.

Does BB have to stand in the corner since he messed up too? How about going public with costing Vitor a win last year when he had a lap on the field? The mistakes just keep happening....

I fault BB not Tony. He is going to do what is in his best interest to do. If stiff penalties are given out, this would end before it started. AGR always gets prefered treatment.

Are they going to make him stand in a corner too? This is far, far too harsh for someone who appeared to try and get run over or cause an accident. At most, they should dock him five minutes of practice, 30 is a gross miscarriage of justice.

First of all as long as he maintains pace speed he can not be black flagged. They do not blackflag a car with a flat during a caution why should they one that just has bent suspension and no parts coming off it? Second, he was black flagged as soon as he could not keep pace, and third a driver has THREE laps to acknowledge the black flag.

Which, IMHO, is exactly why they should have acted under the yellow. Ignoring a directive like this should result in suspension, not a joke of a penalty.

May I remind you... only ONE of the wheels that steers the car was making contact with the pavement. The green flag was eminent (imminent?... it was gonna happen REAL SOON).

What part of launching a three legged racecar to it's top speed while in front of lots of others (both on the track and in the stands) sounds like a good idea?

They had the ability to order him from the racing surface, If they really did and he declined, well I'm sorry, but in lots of jobs that's a terminable offense.
