  • Stuff We Already Know That Can Easily Be Discussed on Other Boards Here

Presented as a public service to those who don't seem to realize this is the board for positive fans of the IndyCar Series...

    1) We already know NASCAR is the big dog, the 800-lb gorilla, gets all the "best" drivers, gets all the "best" sponsors, gets all the "best" TV ratings, gets all the hot chicks at the dance, etc. There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

    2) We already know the economy is headed south on an SR-71 Blackbird with no flight plan and no runway in sight, making it excruciatingly difficult for any IndyCar team to woo sponsors. There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

    3) We already know that not every single former Champ Car team will be joining the IndyCar Series this year, possibly for reasons 1) and 2) above, and that some teams and drivers may never be heard from again in Indianapolis-style open-wheeled racing, ever. There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

    4) We already know that those responsible for promoting IndyCar racing apparently cannot promote their way out of a paper bag and seem to asphyxiate every time they attempt it; and as a result our ratings and attendance will be at best mediocre and at worst abysmal, especially compared to the sanctioning body mentioned in 1). There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

    5) We already know that, with rare exceptions so mediocre they're not worth mentioning, short track drivers are not only unable to compete in the top-level racing they once dominated like an elephant does a cockroach, they are actively discouraged from even giving it a sniff, being told to come back with sponsors and/or a million zillion dollars in cold hard cash; and hence, all short-track drivers, especially the ones driving in USAC, are utterly and summarily screwed, flocking to NASCAR instead in lemming-like droves. There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

    6) We already know that Danica is in the series only because she looks hot in white cotton swimwear and/or has sold her soul to greedy agents and brain-dead advertisers, and that Sarah owns her own team now only because she does not look hot in white cotton swimwear and/or has sold her soul to greedy agents and brain-dead advertiser, and neither of them are capable of driving a tricycle over a paved asphalt driveway without risking other people's lives, much less in a high-performance formula racecar at 220+ MPH. There is no need to remind us of this "fact" on this board.

Feel free to add any others that I may have missed, that those who apparently do not understand people come to this particular board to enjoy what they like about the sport may be appropriately informed.

Well, that filters out a lot of topics.

Well, most of that made sense...

But the Danica thing is a little off.

Sure, she's hot...looks great in white panties or whatever you said. BUT, she did run top 5 at Indy. Top 10 first 3 starts actually. She's completed 566 out of a possible 566 at Indy...she's had some poles (EASY!), ran a bunch of top 10's, been a great interview when the league has been begging for some personality out of Hornish and some of the others.

Her best finish of 4th is equal to or better than any of the following...Scott Pruett, Chip Ganassi (driver), Teo Fabi, John Andretti, Robby Gordon (actually did run 4th once), Tony Bettenhausen, Scott Sharp, Scott Brayton, Pancho Carter, George Snider, Wally Dallenbach....seriously, this list goes on and on.

Lets not forget shes 25 or whatever...not to compare, but Mears first won Indy at 27 in his 2nd start, Rutherford at 36 in his 11th start, Bobby Unser at 34 in his 6th start, Foyt won at 25 in his 4th start (same as she will be this year)

Now under no circumstances am I expecting her to be a 3 or 4 time winner. But don't you think it's a little early to be saying she has the ride because she's hot? YES, SHE's Hot...but a girl would say that about Helio, Dixon, Weldon, on and on....why is it bad for a girl to be hot and not a guy??

Get over it, she can drive, and has already fared better than 11 very well known and respected names.

And why the shot's at Sarah...seems like you are calling her ugly or something. What gives? You like your drivers build more like Tony Stewart or something? Lighten up...I'm fine with giving Leilani a shot too!

I'm not sure there is anything left to talk about except Tenderloins.

While I completely agree with your post and support Danica 1000% percent, you are incorrect on Teo Fabi. He won several times in his rookie year of 1983. He also finished 2nd at Michigan in 1989. There may have been more wins, but I can't remember right now. Also, Tony Bettenhausen finished second at Michigan in 1981 in a very old Parnelli chassis if I remember correctly.

I need a life I can't believe I remember this kind of stuff, but forget my anniversary every year.

On edit: John Andretti won (Australia in 1990, Scott Pruett won at Michigan in 1995, Robby Gordon won at Phoenix in 95.

Maybe you were talking about just Indy. If so, my apologies.

I think goldie19 was strictly referring to finishing at Indy...

                    Sorry...Indy only rant

No need to apologize, I was talking Indy...should state that more clearly.

If only she had a couple team mates pull over for her, or do a slow spin with a lap to go, she would have that first win too.

I think with Marco, Danica, Mutoh, Lloyd, Will Power, Rahal, Hunter-Reay, Perera....we are really set up with a great bunch of young drivers. Hopefully it convinces the Weldon's of the series not to jump to Nascar. Gotta love how well Franchiti, Hornish, and Villenueve are doing! Nothing quite like getting fired by 2 straight series, eh Jaques?

I can't wait to watch the battle for Rook Of the year at Indy. What a great field of first timers at Indy. FREAKING LOVE IT!!!

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

                        Got it.

You are spot on. You just need to understand that some here while posing to want Americans in the series, really only want a certain TYPE of American in the series.

Anyone who is objective would have to admit that Danica was fantastic at Indy in 2006. While she did not win, she was one of the only cars that moved through the field. And she did it with a Panoz on a day that was very different (Sunny and hot) than the rest of the month.

She also was positioned to win Indy this year if the race had gone about 20 laps more.

In addition to Danica, I am really looking forward to Anthony IV this year. I think he could be someone the league could market if he starts getting the results. His "awe shucks" image could be a nice contrast to the globe-trotting image of guys like Helio.

I am stoked, but in reality, I am stoked every year when the season is starting.

Tony Stewart and Robby Gordon will NOT be participating in the Indy 500.

                              So give it a rest.
