  • INDYCAR: Robin Miller’s IndyCar Notebook

MENARD RETURNS TO INDYCARS When the Indy Racing League began in 1996, John Menard’s team went from Indy 500 specialists to multi-car fixtures who were usually on top of the scoreboard with Tony Stewart.

Stewart won the title in 1997 before jumping on the NASCAR money train and Menard fielded IRL cars through 2001 before pulling the plug to head south to follow his son Paul’s stock-car career. But the billionaire from Eau Claire, Wis. is returning to Indy cars full-time this season—as a sponsor, not an owner. Menard will sponsor Ed Carpenter for Tony George’s Vision Racing....

Wow...Menard and Curry is a bigger unifcation story than Champcar and IRL.
Would love to see Menard as an owern next year. He has the money and resources to compete with the Penske's of the world
We want to relate to Americana. I went to the Indy 500 and that was Americana. I sat in various turns and I didn’t see any champagne drinkers, but I saw a lot of beer drinkers. We appeal to the wine and cheese crowd, but we also appeal to the masses – the beer drinkers.” Randy Bernard

So Robin thinks Rice is in at D&R for the season. Rice mentions the need for sponsorship. D&R does have a good engineering staff.
It's always been about the Indy 500!
I realize I have the right to remain silent, but don't have the ability or enough common sense to do so.

More money to put back into the program, of course.

“He (Curry) apologized and I think he meant it,” said Menard.

If anyone has had the priveledge of meeting John Menard, you will probably feel the same way as me.

                  Good guy to have back.

Makes me wonder if this is John Menard's way of helping to pay for unification?

Can't wait for someone to weigh in with how this is a bad thing because it doesn't increase the car count...

I think it's kinda funny that Ed's car goes from Lowes one year, to one of their 2 biggest competitors the next - good move by John Menard

Hopefully we'll see Lowes or The Home Depot step up and sponsor another car.

Menards old race shop on the westside looks to be run down a little. Maybe someone can help him out and find a realtor to locate that vacant race shop on 7231 Georgetown Road

Someone posted this last year before the merger news and they were laughed off the board. They actually said it would be a two car sponsorship I believe, but never the less, it was a great call
