  • First Time At St. Pete

I'm making my first trip to St Pete this year with a buddy. Give me the low down...what to see, where to go, what to expect, where to sit...still looking for tix. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Buy general admission and roam the infield.

I've twice sat in the stands facing the yachts. Great scenery & an active corner to watch.

It's always been about the Indy 500!
I realize I have the right to remain silent, but don't have the ability or enough common sense to do so.

I recommend the grandstand at the end of turn 1.

Agreed, and don't skip either the IPS races or ALMS. Those IPS cars are really converted road race cars where they did away with the suspended wing, they road and street race very well.

Sit at either turn 10 or 23. If those are full sit on the main straight to watch the cars worked on. Awesome stuff. The sites and sounds are great. Having a beer and watching the cars and beautiful women against the florida back drop . Theres nothing better. I'll be there again this year. Theres a couple of spots you can walk right up to the fence. You can really feel the power of the cars.

*ALMS and IPS paddocks are free with general admission
*Ferris Wheel has moved to turn 5, which i think is much better location
*I think stand 10 and 23 are the best.
*For a little culture, Salvador Dali Musuem is about 2-3 blocks from the racecourse.

I watched the start of the race at the first turn, but eventually started moving around, and boy was I glad I did. It was neat watching the action from all the different viewing areas, and by the end of the race I was almost back to the pits.
