  • Former CCWS Teams Test Dates...

    First I've seen...

A pair of test days for the new IRL teams have been pencilled in for March 19-20 at Sebring and March 24-25 on the oval at Homestead, which will host the opening round of the season on March 29.

that's a little late in the game to be testing, wouldn't you think?

umm, those teams don't have cars yet, remember? and chances are they will have to build and asemble them and get everything fitted the way they want. So no, not late at all for a test session. As the saying goes: "Better late than never."

I noticed this yesterday on Speed but it has been "revised".

              Other elements of the agreement:

              • Champ Car teams committing to the IndyCar Series and demonstrating the ability to fund operating budgets will be provided:

              • One-year Honda basic engine lease
              • Two Dallara chassis from a pool of new and used cars to the extent of the pool available for up to two seasons
              • $1.2 million per car from the IndyCar TEAM program

              • IndyCar Series officials developed an assistance program that assigned an IndyCar Series team to work directly with a Champ Car World Series team (i.e. Rahal Letterman Racing will work with Newman/Haas/Lanigan.)

              • IndyCar Series officials have scheduled individual meetings with Champ Car World Series teams.

              • IndyCar Series officials began preliminary discussions with ESPN/ABC regarding the expanded 2008 IndyCar Series schedule.

              • In the agreement in principle, the IndyCar Series will purchase various non-tangible assets such as intellectual property and historical records from Champ Car. In addition, the IndyCar Series will purchase the Champ Car Medical transporter.

D&R, Panther, and Vision are the other three I have heard of. The IRL team will get some sort of $$ stipend for their technical help

I believe many of the cars have already been built and assembled. TG mentioned that Vision had been working on this besides working on their own cars for some time. Some other teams as well. Probably the only chassis that would need to be assembled would be anything Brand New received from Dallara.

I was thinking about the lateness of the test the other day too, but there aren't any great options since they couldn't get it together in time for the regular test. It makes sense to do it close to race weekend. First off, they don't have to haul down, test, haul back to the shop, just to turn around and go back again. Secondly, the regular teams will be around for race weekend and can help these guys out. Not ideal, but it does make more sense than testing say this weekend.

                          What I had heard was:

Chip will be helping KV (Chip and Vasser connection)
Rahal will help NHL (Rahal connection)
Penske was suppose to assist Forsythe

Those are the first open tests schedules for them, who is to say an ambitious team like NHL isn't turning laps somewhere warm right now? All teams are allowed a certain amount of off season testing I believe, there was video of TCGR at Texas earlier this year.
