  • Bandimere to close at end of 2023 season

Started hearing rumblings a few months ago. There is talk of a new facility, but of course they had a big move in the works 25 years go that went nowhere. Time will tell.

NHRA and the Bandimere family have jointly announced that the 2023 Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals on July 14-16 at Bandimere Speedway will be the last NHRA national event at the historic track just outside of Denver.

I'm going to have to make it up there this year. Not a big straightline guy, but it's a nice place. A friend of a friend is wrapping up a new bracket car. Triumph Spitfire fiberglass body on a tube chassis and powered by a turbocharged Cosworth 4 banger.

Owners called greedy on the local racing pages in 3...2...1...

I see it every time a race track is sold.

Sorry not sorry but if I owned a racetrack and someone waved a check with lots of zeroes on it I'd sell too.

Too late, the racers have complained that the family was greedy for as long as I can remember. I went to highschool with a Bandimere. She told me her branch of the family was given free tickets...one race a year, and not the Mile Highs.

In the late 90's they were trying to partner with some other groups to build "World Park", and multi use racing facility East of Denver with dirt and paved ovals, roadcourse and dragstrip. Needless to say after a year or two of meetings and announcements if never came to be.

I have to give them credit, the karting club I ran with had a short road course in the Bandimere parking lot, and when we wanted to expand the track the family carried the cost and added it back into our rent.

The location is beautiful, and while it'll be a sad day to see it covered in homes, but they'd be foolish to not cash out.

One of the more scenic NHRA tracks on the calendar.

As would I. And if the track was profitable I'd use those zeroes to build a new facility in an area attractive to the same group of racers but where it won't annoy other locals.

The 82 year old lady who owns Grandview Speedway in PA was called all sorts of things on social media when she accepted a 7 figure offer from Copart for the property.

She said before he died her husband told her to do what she felt was right after he was gone. She knew she could use that money at her age in case something went wrong with her health. Not a good enough reason for some.

I was very saddened by the news but i understood her thinking.

The deal fell through and they're already racing there in 2023.

I worked at one of their stores in the early 80's. They had 3 or4 parts stores all around Denver. We were given season passes for the drag races that did not include the Mile High. I went up there once or twice but wasn't too interested. They brought in a guy from Pennsylvania to run the machine shop in their main store. Lenny ???. Can't remember. In any case he brought his Sprint Car and I spent one season stooging for him. Leaned a lot. They sold all the stores in about 1984 to some group from the West Coast and all the performance parts were gone and it was time go get out.
