First I've heard of this. Is it a completely new engine, or just a different crank?

I really really hope they can get the engine note to sound nicer.
Thats about the only thing thats negative about IPS these days.

Yeah just like what everyone else said, It was in the 34 car... Nice Flat crank, More torque to the wheels... Sounded nice from pit road.

180 degree crank as opposed to what i believe is a 90 degree crank now

You should have seen the heads on pit road turn the first time this thing went by. The response was great.

Alright! Been telling anyone who would listen (no one) that the series needed a better sound.

I heard the only difference between motors is the 180 crank and cam obviously, but there is not suppose to be a difference in performance.. I guess they are available to teams for test days only this season..

The 180 crank should make more power in the upper half of the power band.
Going from a 90 degree crank to a 180 degree crank, evens-out the exhaust pulses to each exhaust collector. That allows the tuning of the exhaust lengths to be more effective.

yea it should make more, but is it set up to make more?? could the mapping be set to keep them the same?

They could use the mapping to de-tune it.
They could just grab one of the Honda engineers. They're great at de-tuning engines.
