    F1 IS in serious trouble........

Bernie, et. al. have found the golden goose. They bring something exotic to countries that have no central sporting "thing"... countries that have no "worth" on the world stage. These countries fall all over themselves vieing for some sort of noteriety. The state (national government) is willing to spend what ever it takes to achieve some sort of "status" in the world. They buy a F1 race....
Bernie demands more and more and more until the provinces, counties, states, go bankrupt. Everyone discovers that the emperor has no clothes, (witness Spa... Hokenheim... mossport,... england,...).
The state wakes up, discovers that they have been bilked... and the race dies.
He takes the good countries, the ones that actually have competative sporting events... (phoenix,... watkins glen,... detroit,... sebring,... INDIANOPLIS,..., on, andon, and on, ) and blasts the people who try to accomodate his Circus... as being inept................
Folks, we are seeing the demise of F1.
F1 will be long gone before the demise of the IRL.....
Bernie has no love of the F1 fan, only the almighty DOLLAR (or whatever currency of the moment)
    Just my $0.02....................

There hasn't been a real German GP since they neutered Hockenheim.

F1 is on its way to becoming an all Asian series - though I'm sure they'll find a way to keep Hungary on the schedule just to pizz me off.

Agreed. That new Hockenheim, ruined at the request of the FIA, is whats causing the debt there and dropping fan interest.

Actually, I like the new Hockenheim track better. I always thought it was silly for F1 cars to be blasting down those long, long straights out through the woods.

I remember when they stopped using the Nurburgring for the old Hockenheim. Most of the commentators at the time called Hockenheim a "Mickey Mouse" circuit--when Lauda won in '77, I believe Road and Track captioned the race "Mickey Mouse meets Super Rat". Now we lament the loss of that circuit. Really says alot about the loss of character in the tracks.

I can't beleive there really won't be a German GP. The Schumachers, Mercedes and BMW seem like compelling reasons to find a way to fix this.

There will still be a European GP at Nurburgring... which is the 2nd German GP.

Yeah, the old Nurburgring was really something (before my time, though).

I always liked that. It was something unique and it really got to show the sheer speed of the F1 cars.

Well, for starters,F1 has actually done a decent job of keeping historic venues, considering how the cars have gotten outrageously fast.

And your examples are poor ones...Spa will be back in 07,Hockenheim is looking for state funds and is still on the sched.,and Mosport was, geez, nearly 50 years ago.
England still has a GP,and probably will for the foreseeable future.

I don't like Bernie's bilking policies, but this is hardly the beginning of the end.

Just a chicane here, a chicane there - no problem! But you are right, they have kept most of their venues. It really sucks to lose Spa, though (again).

Bold statement considering F1's been around for 50+ years to the IRL's 10.

                          Won't happen.

...perhaps, but still it was cool.

                              Post number two is hilarious.

Spa just did a 5 year deal, and everyone knows the dual GPs in Germany and Italy days are numbered...too many other countries want a race.

                              Right, F1 is doomed.
