According to swedish newspapers, Ross's dad has confirmed that Rossi will be in Ferrari 2007. From November 2006 he will concentrate on doing as much testing as possible to prepare for his 2007 debut. We will wait and see......

It's a very logical choice for Ferrari. They are going to need a star to replace Schumacher. Rossi has all the star qualities no matter how fast he proves to be in a car. They don't seem to have much option on the other current star drivers such as Alonso and Raikkonen and replacing Schumacher with a yet-to-be-proven driver without F1 experience is a risk they probably don't want to take.
Even if Schumacher continues racing in 2007 I could see them putting Rossi in Massa's seat to gain experience alongside Michael before taking over his seat the following year.
