  • USGP Questions

    1. Does anyone know what the "TBD" support race is yet?

    2. Does anyone know of any testing surprises for the Friday extra practice? Busch, Fisher?

    Thanks,
    Dave

    1. Apparently the Historic GP 'race' has been pulled by the series organziers as they are restricted to parade laps instead of really racing. A **** shame if you ask me.

    2. Uhh... Not a snowballs chance in h$!!. Even if someone like Fisher brings a multi-million dollar check to Minardi or Jordan there is no way it will happen.

      Thanks,

Not for those names, but if (say) Bryan Herta showed up with a big enough check, I'm sure they'd run him. I mention Bryan due to his previous test....

Townsend Bell would be an interesting choice. The name has little connection here as far as selling tickets, but he is the leading American in F3000....

I doubt it. The only time you have seen drivers other than the regulars on the track for the Friday test have been Alan McNish, who is Renault's official test driver, and Zolt Baumgartner for Jordan. You just know that Zolt brought a big check for that. Just look at his results from F3000.

Looks like they have taken the "TBA" race off the schedule

Does that mean that there is only the F1 race on Sunday? Wasn't there 2 support races in previous years?

I believe there is the second Porsche race Sunday(first one is Saturday). It looks like the second series/race is off the schedule-at least for now.

No historic race? Crap. Hanging around those cars while the guys tuned on them was a favorite thing of mine.

OTOH, the F1 race is going to mean something!

So there's gonna be no historic cars at all? Not even for the parade laps they've done the last 3 years?

No rich guys running their Ferrari's into each other?

The novelty of it had worn off for the series' owner-drivers, who cover all their own costs for the weekend. They wanted to actually race this year, and I don't blame them a bit.

IMS said no way, you aren't racing, so Historic Grand Prix said we'll take a hike.

(I've flagged two HGP weekends this year and they've both been spectacular.)

I don't root for crashes, but I must admit I took quite a bit of devlish pleasure seeing crumpled doors and hoods on those things...
