Is it just me, or does anyone think that all of the F1 high profile types are a bit intrusive in their bashing Renault's decsion to let Kubica rally race?

I think it is universally agreed that this was not a good decision.. but what is the point of supposedly responsible racing folks continuing to say things in the media?

Renault and to say the least Kubica are the ones paying the price, it is their business to deal with it...

Who cares what your competitors say... Renault management has Robert's back.

"No, we are not changing," said the Frenchman. "Robert is a racer, I'm a racer. If we had banned rally driving and karting, he would not have been happy.

"The driver is the most useful when they feel comfortable with the team. Absolutely. Up until the corner where he had his crash, Robert was a happy man," added Boullier.

When pressed as to why Lotus-Renault would allow their star to indulge his passion for rallying, team principal Eric Boullier told the press "Robert is allowed to do it because it is close to his heart. For him, rallying is vital, it is his balance.” In other words, racing something other than a Formula One car is what makes Kubica who he is when he is in a Formula One car.

Personnally, it makes me like Renault a bit more that they let him rally. I like seeing the F1 drivers engage in off season competition.

I don't disagree, except for one point, doing that race so close to the start of F1 testing might not be such a good idea.. this has really put the team in a scramble.. so while allowing a driver to pursue off season racing opportunities maybe there should be some attention paid to when and where... but still, it is their decision.

Lotus-Renault GP management knew the risks & race car drivers never think they are going to get hurt!

Ferrari kicks off the season with their F1 drivers (+the Ducati Moto GP riders) racing karts, & thrashing DOWNHILL on snow skis... just WEEKS before car launch & winter testing Imagine if Alonso broke his leg why skiing? How about Massa breaking his collar bone while karting??

I wouldn't be surprised if part of it is jealousy...Robert was getting to do what they secretly would like to be doing...

I'm on Renault side or I'm all for allowing drivers to race in different series.

The problem is the drivers. F1 drivers think they are gods and become too confident in minor leagues. So Clark lost life in F2 race, Piquet crashed at Indy, Mansell did too in his first oval race.

They have CONTRACTS. Why would a F1 driver bother racing GP2 or doing a Lights race (minor league races?) Most of us LAUGH @NASCAR Cup drivers for dropping down & running in Nationwide or the Truck series. So why do we expect F1 drivers to drop down? A-Rod doesn't go play for the Yankee AAA team on his nights off from the MLB schedule.

The worldwide F1 SCHEDULE also prevent drivers from branching out. IMO, they don't act like gods @the ROC. Numerous ex F1 drivers have adapted just fine running ACO/LeMans 24, DTM, or even INDYCAR.

Because they want to race. 20 1.5 hour F1 races for real racers is absolutely nothing. AJ Foyt after he won his third Indy 500 next night came out at local track and raced midgets for $100 although he won a day before $300,000. Sure he was an owner himself, but if you are a real racer you would want to race all the time. I think its great that you have Cup drivers racing in Nationwide and Trucks, I think that helps the ladder series to grow. Both Nationwide and Truck series comparatively are much stronger than Indylights or GP2.

Theres also a difference between racing different series in the off season, and racing them during the season aka cup and nationwide. I think driving in other series duirng the off season is fine

It also has to do with the fact that some journalists/outlets in the F1 media side with the 1 malaysia racing team in the lotus dispute, and so are looking for any excuse to blast Lotus Renault GP. sad but true
