  • DC Geography - Conduit Road

In November 1901, the Arlington Wheelmen held an event at which there were three automobile races. The races took place on Conduit Road, from Cabin John Hotel to the Cabin John Bridge and back. But where was Conduit Road?

The current Cabin John Bridge is where I-495 crosses the Potomac from Virginia to Maryland. This bridge replaced an earlier bridge in the same general vacinity. Cabin John is actually in Maryland, so that might be where Conduit Road was located. I am not familiar with a Conduit Road in that general area, but then again I haven't really wandered around that neck of the woods for quite awhile.

I think that the Cabin John Hotel was once located in what is now the Cabin John Regional Park, which is in Montgomery County and on the Maryland side of the Potomac.
