  • Coey v. Picard, 1907

In July 1907, C.A.Coey "won" the 24 hour race at Harlem. In August, Paul Picard supplied affidavits to the American Automobile Association stating that 13 laps had been missed from the Matheson's total, and that it should have won. Testimony to this effect was given in court, and it was adjourned in early September to wait for the timers James Bayliss and Esch to return. The Chicago Daily Tribune which had been reporting this never mentions the trial again. What happened? Was Picard's protest upheld?
