I just had to go out to the shed. It got down to the single digits over Christmas weekend here and I dont go in the shed often but I realized these collectible (?) bottles had obviously frozen solid and broke.
I bought these at Dover in 1992 during the Kings fan appreciation tour.
Damn, these were gonna be valuable someday. Or not, but yeah they could slap a NASCAR driver on just about anything and people would pay more than they should for it.
Someone will probably ask; yes I was curious too so I opened one.
It smells like Pepsi , still has a trace of carbonation and tastes like the oldest flattest Pepsi I'll ever try.

They even had NASCAR drivers on the cover of TV Guide...of course you had to buy all four to make sure you "complete the set".
How about all of those Kellogg's cereal boxes...must have been dozens of them at the peak. My favorites were the ones where it was three you put together...again, you had to buy all three boxes to "complete the set" and complete the picture.

All this stuff...have to give it to them, at the peak they were able to redefine - or at least blur the difference between - the words "collectible" and "souvenir".

Mine was dark brown on the bottom and a murky clear on top.
They played it to perfection but no one decides what is collectible.
It happens organicallyLive like Dave

And a bunch of the Coke bottles of various drivers
NASCAR screwed up big time going with the big tent, so they made sure they got their share. It turned off nearly everybody because it ruined the experience of being at the track when there wasn't much happening inside the gates. That's when I started shopping for shirts/hats online.
And it's not like IndyCar or IMS is cornering any market. Just last year at the show on race weekend I got a bunch of new hats and shirts from 5,10, 15 years ago none for more than $5.00.
NASCAR didn't lose any money on merchandise, the people who kept buying yeah those 1 of 10,000 cars of every size lost a good chunk of their retirement. I was buying some Davey Allison car for $4.00 at a show in Wisconsin. He also had the gold Bill Elliott McDonald's car and I mentioned to the seller that I I was at the Southern 500 when he drover that car, got a good picture and had Bill autograph it. He said I could have the car for $2,00. Well I never bought it for the $30 dollars it used to be but for a deuce, sure.
Those $399 jackets, aren't at the Goodwill store, rappers and the like are buying and wearing them as some kind of retro, never were NASCAR fans but they're colorful ad nobody else in my crowd has one so they're cool and driving up the prices for anybody who has one to sell on ebay."You can't arrest those guys, they're folk heroes"
"They're criminals"
"Well most folk heroes started out as criminals"
