I saw this in an antique/junk store today. I see their 50th anniversary logo on the package so this was Peak NASCAR Era

If you're the type who wants to collect NASCAR anything, this is a pretty great time. I bought a signed Harry Gant Farewell Tour car for $10 not long ago. Diecast, especially of the B/C tier drivers, is dirt cheap bordering on giveaways. I'm pretty selective with that stuff given that, you know, I don't watch NASCAR anymore and don't really care about any drivers in the series who are still there.

There's one shop in particular that is maybe 30-40 minutes away where I found a treasure trove of Johnny Benson Jr. memorabilia. I almost bought it up but then realized "What am I gonna do with 15-20 Johnny Benson Jr. pieces?"

I knew we were at NASCAR market over-saturation at that moment. Keep a greasy fried chicken bucket as a Dale Jr. collector's item.

QVC outright did NASCAR diecast and collectables for years. It came to an end around the time the peak popularity guys like Stewart and Gordon retired.

I actually went down the eBay rabbit hole of looking up old diecasts the other day. I could very easily fill up my man cave with the cars from my favorite era (1995-2000) but at those prices that's all I'd have room for. It's frankly amazing to me how oversaturated the market was back then - there were 5 or 6 different companies making full lines of cars and so many are still out there mint in package (for short money!) even today because the demand never caught up with the supply.

NASCAR laughed all the way to the bank, but I'm guessing whatever value the NASCAR name had was lost in those trinkets they ended up attaching their names to.

Works out to almost $130 today.

I still have a program, maybe 2 from the first Brickyard. Dad went. He got me one

I'm sure people were buying as many as they could manage back then because someday they were gonna be VALUABLE(!)

I doubt I could get the amount listed on the cover now if I wanted to sell one.

Its amusing to look at people selling their precious collections online. Not the faintest idea that the market crashed years ago and all their diecasts are priced many many times over what anyone is willing to pay for them in 2023.

And nobody cares that it's still in the original packaging. Just because it's a black Chevy with a 3 on the doors It's still not worth $100.

I still have a good amount of NASCAR diecast that's mostly from 1994 to 2005. Everything from Mark Martin valvoline, to Bill Elliott McDonalds, to Chad Little John Deere, to many of Kasey Kahne's 2004 liveries, to a Ron Hornaday 2005 truck and many others

The last thing I bought (outside of race tickets) any apparel of NASCAR was in 2018 at the Rolex 24. I bought a daytona 500 hat that was on clearance.

Since my fathers passing, we found many of his old diecast cars that he had as a kid... and found some really cool cars from the 1970s and 1980s. Everything from F1 to NASCAR to USAC. I kept all of those and added to my racecar collection. Found a Jackie Stewart F1, Cale Yarborough oldsmobile, and probably my favorite was a 2004 Daytona Prototype from Stewart, Earnhardt and Wallace Pontiac powered Crawford.
