  • Right rear Roadster tire

Is there an accounting for a driver injuring his right arm on a RR tire?

I could see it maybe happening during correction for a spin or cockpit encroachment
for RR contact with the wall.

I'm talking in terms of just "normal" driving.

I've never read or heard of it happening although it was certainly possible. Depending on the design of the car there were some teams that added a guard alongside the cockpit to keep the driver's arm from rubbing against the tire. Most conventional roadsters had the rear axle centerline behind the part of the frame that the roll bar was mounted on and that generally kept the wheel itself farther back from the cockpit. It tended to be some of the laydown engine cars that had the axle farther forward to where it might be possible for a driver to get their elbow into the tire.

This is the photo (not mine) that brought it to mind.

The tire must have grown during the run, plus the movement
through the turns. Here, AJ is only on warm-up laps.

I have seen photos of drivers wearing padding around their right
arms. Maybe they are the ones who have gotten bit.

I'm guessing it would only take one occurrence to learn a lesson.
