NBC used that in the intro for their weekend sports show for years.

It was the NBC version of Wide World of Sports but the name of the show escapes me.

Back when you had to wait a week or a month to see parts of a race on TV.

I was standing on a hauler in the infield about 100 yards closer to S/F. Never forget it.

Another piece of stock footage was the very last clip where that weightlifter was flipping out. He was celebrating for years!

During this crash, JR's Simpson helmet, the popular "Darth Vader" type of the time, was cracked and ground down along the chin bar. For the rest of his career, his many evolutions of Simpson lids had no vent holes in the front chin area per his request. It's fascinating to find photos and videos of all the Simpson helmets through the years and see how John's look different from everyone else's.
