  • Bob Fletcher

Just read that former owner Bob Fletcher passed away at the age of 100:

    Real drivers don't need fenders!

Had the misfortune for two of his drivers to die at Indy.
"An emphasis was placed on drivers with road racing backgrounds which meant drivers from open wheel, oval track racing were at a disadvantage. That led Tony George to create the IRL." -Indy Review 1996

Art Pollard. But, who was the second?

Fletcher's team wasn't quite up there with AAR, VPJ or McLaren, but was a decent ride. Perhaps best of the rest. And there certainly was no shame in that.

Nope, that was that for him. He closed up shop after May of '82, if my memory serves.

Snider ran Pocono I think in 82? And then Jim Hall bought the car to replace the one that got split in half during the race.

Doing a bit of research, I was wrong. Snider ran the Fletcher car at Michigan and Pocono. Looks like Pocono was the last race for Fletcher.

Thanks. I had completely forgotten that, if I ever knew it. I always associated Fletcher with his copper and turquoise Cobre Tire cars in the 70s.
