  • O'DELL&SHIELDS 8x10 COLOR HEADSHOT PHOTOS

Does anyone have a O'Dell & Shields colored headshot photo from the 1950s. I have one of Tony B. that I got in the mid 50s. Was wondering how they did these as they look like they were hand painted. On the back are a list of what colors to use, such as Jacket helmet etc.

I can't speak for these particular photos, but hand-coloring of b&w photos is usually done using color dyes and brushes. There are (or were) dyes made specifically for coloring photos. Other dyes (like Doctor Martin's) would work, too. Really good brushes are a must. You can use colored pencils, as well. The photo needs to be more of a matte finish, though, for pencils to work well.
