Dean Thompson has passed after surgery. I don't have any details on what happened, Dean was still young (maybe 55). I saw him at Turkey night in 2002. I was in the pit grandstands, the wife and I had just sat down. I looked to my left and son-of a gun...there was Dean Thompson. I leaned over and asked him if he knew who won the first winged sprint car race at Ascot. He looked at me a little funny and before he could answer I said "YOU DID". He got that same big smile I'd seen many times as he was climbing out of Bruce Brommes sprinter. He pointed his finger at me and said "your right". It was 1984 I think, World of Outlaws were racing with wings at Ascot for the first time, Steve Kinser won the main I think...but Dean Thompson won the 1st heat.
