My wife will be turning 60 in April. Many years ago when we met she was driving a 1966 Mercury Comet Caliente convertible. I was thinking it would be cool to surprise her with a similar car. Just to take it on short rides, mainly to local towns that have vintage car shows during the summer. Does anyone else here do that? Any good Internet forum sites to recommend?

But, to comment, if that Comet had the available 289 in it, it was a real sleeper.A book fell on my head, and I only have my shelf to blame.

He used to take me and my brothers for rides on 66 through the Painted Desert in the car, it was a real beauty and he kept it spotless.
Here's just the car you're looking for, it's in great condition and has your name all over it!
I'm surprised the asking price is just $14,500, that sounds very reasonable. If that's where the market is I'd say you have a good chance of finding a nice one for less than $20K.

That is a nice looking car, thanks. Brings up the whole issue of buying something long distance. I'll have to do some investigating but on the surface the price seems OK. I expect because it's not exactly a popular old car. Very nice, thanks.A book fell on my head, and I only have my shelf to blame.

I bought a car from a guy in Philly, it cost $850 to have it shipped to Dallas. Heck, call the guy and ask him if it's still for sale. You never know.
It sounds like a good deal. Front suspension component replacement is expensive, and it has a fresh motor.
