It was indeed--since 1956 model year.

What I think is missing on this one are the chrome strakes on the trunk lid. Think this was '59 only but maybe '58 instead.

How lucky was he to have the original 283 still around? But then it says he put dual quads on it, which I doubt were available in 59.

To quote the Old Cars Weekly article:

The 1959 models were similar to the 1958 models, but no longer carried the fake louvers on the hood or chrome strips on the trunk. -
