  • New Indianapolis 500 History Website

    Hello everyone.

I wanted to let TF members know about the website I've been working on, which is finally ready to be seen.

    http://www.wibc.com/500history.aspx

This is our new online History of the Indianapolis 500 webpage. It's still a bit of a work in progress, but for now, it will have audio and photos from the greatest sporting event in the world.

If you use the scroll bar for "Best Of Talk Of Gasoline Alley" you will get the new online vault of the great Donald Davidson's answers on drivers, team owners, and more.

Eventually it will have around 10 years worth of answers in a permanent, online archive.

If you use the scroll bar for "Indianapolis 500 Memories" you will get highlights from the last 60 plus years, plus other special items.

If you use the scroll bar for "Indianapolis 500 Interviews" you will get comments from drivers, team owners, and 500 legends on a variety of topics.

This has been a bit of a labor of love for me, and I have hundreds of hours to go before I'd consider it "done" but for now enjoy.

Please feel free to leave comments here or send me a PM, because I'd like to know what you'd like to see on the site to make it better.

    Thank you!
This will be another terrific resource.

Having problems getting items to open up.
When I select an item and then click on the arrow I wind up with the item in my save to pictures window.

Thats incredible. The vintage photos are amazing. Well done. A workin' mans work is never done, especially if its a labor of love.

          Hi carl s

If you're clicking on the arrow in the audio files, that means you want to download the item.

If you just want to play it in the audio player, just click on the item's name you're interested in.

                  No problem

By the way, I tossed a Stark & Wetzel Commercial in there.

I was excited to see more of the Talk of Gasoline Alley but these interviews you have recorded are priceless. I don't think I've heard any of those before. Maybe I'll skip work tomorrow!!!

The best part is, that's only 1/10th of the interviews I will upload !!

                      Glad you like them.

It is so good to see Donald's thoughts & "tangents" preserved. I had heard a rumor to the effect that Donald might be writing a 500 history...any truth in this? I know he's been a consultant on other books of course; but a history from his point of view and recollections of all the former drivers, etc he's met would be fascinating reading.
