  • 1973 Indy 500 Radio Broadcast

I am in the middle of the 1973 Indy 500 radio broadcast. Its 7th disks worth from the IMS download. Great quality. Just got thru the two days of rain.

If you have not downloaded it, you really should
"Paff has been closer to the mark than anyone will give him credit for."

    Richard Kimble 11/18/2010

"Paff is far more right than any of you will EVER give him credit for.

As non politically correct and un IndyCar friendly as it is, it's the truth. "

I downloaded the 1973 race direct from the Speedway gift shop website. The most spine tingling part of the 1973 broadcast is when Arman Teran was hit and killed by the fire truck going the wrong way up pit road after Swede Savage's accident in turn 4. You can hear the many 500 Festival Queens scream and I am told many fainted.

1976 broadcast is also good to have...it was Sid's last broadcast before taking his life May 2, 1977.

Do they say anything about Jerry Karl and how he was 107 laps behind the run (per the official finishing order, which listed him as "running" despite only completing 26 laps)?

Jerry Karl---at about 6hrs 2 minutes into the file...the 3rd day at around lap 52 they say "Jerry Karl is on the track"--that's after giving the standings...seems like Karl is way behind already at that point.
