  • Searching for pics of Grandad

Looking for a little help or direction to head in with this. My Grandad is Clyde Adams, the chassis builder. Because of some misfortunes, I don't have any of his old photos of either his cars (besides about 5 or 6 that I have gotten off the web) or him with his cars.

One car in particular I have been trying to find any photos of. He nicknamed it the "Big Fish" because it looked like a fish to him with it's large vertical fin in back. It held a speed record for some time, I believe. Any info photos on that car in particular would be greatly appreciated! I poured over photos of that car when I was a child. I also used to love one prototype he built just before WWII, it was completely different than everything on the tracks at the time. I know there probably no photos of that one around though, but wanted to try my luck.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Dan

I've got a pic of the 1940 Tommy Hinnerschitz entry. It's listed as an Adams/Offy. He finished 32nd, with an accident on lap 32. Qualified 9th:

Assuming that's the same Adams (?), my avatar is also an Adams. George Robson's 1946 winner.

Dan, welcome to the Nostalgia section of Trackforum. It's great to have you here.

And maybe you can help us with information on your grandfather. I have personally been searching for information on Clyde Adams for many years off and on without too much success. I'd love to know when and where he started building race cars. I would assume his first cars would have been in the 1920s. And I have heard of at least one Clyde Adams sprint car that was built in 1961 (if my sources were correct). Anything that you might provide would be helpful; even basic information like birthdays, etc.

        Thanks and welcome aboard!

Tom Meagher out here in OR with West Coast Vintage Racers has a 1961 Clyde Adams Built Sprinter, I'll be racing with some of that group this wekend and will ask about Tom and the #3.

Also, Ernie Triplett ran a 1930-1 Clyde Adams Sprinter at Legion Ascot, so maybe there's some data in John Lucero's book of that name.
