The left front corner was painted yellow on race day to distinguish it from the team cars of Hill and Pollard. It's similar to the way teams do it now with roll hoop colors.

Graham Hill's #70 car had some white highlights. Someone here can probably tell you what the Pollard car looked like.

      Arts was the 'standard red'.

Lucky to see those cars race that day....

      ..'68 was my first 500!

I was there that day as well. A toilet manufacturing company sponsored the winning car; any guesses?

Really? I would have sworn it was Rislone.

Is was Rislone (although it's certainly easy to get car names and sponsors mixed up year to year). And actually Rislone was (is) a pretty good product. Unser was driving a customer Eagle at that point. His days with Gurney and Olsonite were a couple of years away. BTW, Olsonite never did win the 500 as a primary sponsor. When Unser and Gurney won in 1975 the car was sponsored by Jorgenson Steel.

Leonard (car 60) had a lot of yellow on the tip and both sides of the nose for race day, as well as a "yellow wall" left front tire at the start. It also had black numerals on a white rectangle.

Hill (car 70) had a white tipped nose for race day with white numerals on a black rectangle.

With no radios and only pit boards in those days it was nearly impossible to tell who was coming in to pit, or going by at 190 plus.

Ok. Cool. As a kid I used to know the primary sponsors for virtually all the Indy winners ever. I may have guessed Olsonite for 75 though. Although now I remember Bobby's 75 car. I thought that was a good looking Eagle. I can't remember if he still had that Harley-Davidson helmet? That was a sweet helmet back before many of the Indy drivers did the fancy decorations.
