  • Question about emerson fittipaldi's 2 formula one world driving championships?

What team or teams was emerson fittipaldi with when he won his 2 formula one world driving championships?

Wasn't he just with 1 team or am i wrong about that?

Also after emmo won his 2nd championship didn't emmo and his brother form an all brazilian team?

In 1990 in the prerace coverage for the indy 500 sam posey talked about this and he said emmo's team was unsuccesful and that it hurt emmo financially and that it made him take a 3 or 4 year break from racing?

Fittipaldi won the WC for team Lotus(or John Player Special) and then for McLaren in 1974 then his brother Wilson convinced him to drive for the all Brazilian Copersucar team. As reigning world champion Emerson failed to qualify for several races in 1976, the car was a disaster as they tried to run it from Brazil and not England as other teams did. Fed up, Emerson quit the sport...for a while.

Emerson won the 1972 title with Lotus and the 1974 title with McLaren. In 1976, he joined his brothers F1 team Copersucar Fittipaldi, which was ultimately unsuccessful. Emmo quit after 1980 season and the team wound down after the 1982 season. Emmo was financially and spiritually beaten, but started, with friends, a fun superkart league and that fired him back up. He tested for the Spirit F1 team and raced for a few IMSA and CART teams and landed with Patrick and the rest is history.

Would anyone have a picture of the pink indycar emmo ran in 1984? If so can they post it on the message board? Thanks.

Ralph Sanchez was the one who called and invited Emerson to run in the Camel GT on the streets of Miami. That was the start of his US racing career...

Thanks for posting that picture r mears fan. That is a pretty neat looking car that emmo ran.

Who was the car owner of the pink car did emmo's later car owner in indycar pat patrick have anything to do with emmo's pink car?

Wasn't emerson prior to alonso winning the championship a few years back wasn't emerson the youngest ever driver to win the championship?

Wasn't emmo 25 when he won his first championship? Whereas alonso was 24?

Also if emerson had stayed with 1 of the 2 teams that he won his championship with or if he had not gone to his brother's all brazilian team could emmo have potentially won more world driver's championships?

Also was emerson driving for pat patrick in indycar in 1984 or 85? And was he with patrick prior to gordon johncock retiring?

Also the team that emmo won his 2nd drivers championship with mclaren didn't they actually let him test - practice a car at indianapolis in 1974 or 1975?

Not only did Alonso win it at a younger age, he won BOTH his championships at a younger age than Emmo won his first.

Didn't emerson fittipaldi drive in a formula one race where there was a thunderstorm?

75 British GP. Emmo had wets when everyone else was on slicks. Downpour at a hugely fast corner- instant F1 car salad. Emmo wins!

Emmo drove many races in the rain! You see in F-1 they don't run for cover when it sprinkles.
