Wasn't he called "The Racing Farmer"?

One of those "independants" of the 1960's and 70's who never recieved the credit due for for truly being one of the blocks used for a foundation material in building NASCAR.

Cecil Gordon, James Hylton, Richard Clildress, Joe Frasson, Buddy Arrington, J.D. McDuffie, Dave Marcis, Frank Warren, Wendell Scott, Coo Coo Marlin, Ed Negre, Jabe Thomas,G.C. Spencer, Elmo Langley and many others should have a memorial in the main entrance of the new NASCAR museum, wherever it is built.

The blood, sweat and tears of these guys was used to mix the mortar holding the place together.

They have earned a place of honor in NASCAR's history.

            Dick's day of days.
"An emphasis was placed on drivers with road racing backgrounds which meant drivers from open wheel, oval track racing were at a disadvantage. That led Tony George to create the IRL." -Indy Review 1996

I bought my first Honda from Dick Brooks Honda in Greer, SC. It was a 1985 CRX, a great car. I am sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Dick Brooks.

Some may not remember that Dick Brooks was part of a Nascar broadcast team. I can't remember if it was MRN or a tv network.

Both. Brooks was on MRN radio, and on the long forgotten MRN-TV and Mislou tape delay broadcasts.

He also was involved in several Honda dealerships.

I'll wager a large sum of money that current IRL fans have heard of all of the guys in that lineup, and that most current NASCAR fans have not heard of most of them.

Actually, I'm wrong. The 1996 IRL fans knew all of them. But Tony George didn't know them...

I had the privilige of meeting Dick Brooks when he drove for Junie ( one of the guys I work with helped on a local LMS Ford, they got a lot of help from Junie Donlevey ).
He was a great story teller and all around nice guy.
I remember well the day the afore-mentioned Chameleon T-Bird he drove for Junie almost won the Daytona 500.
                        He will be missed.

Wow, that field that Dick beat at Talladega brings back a lot of fond memories. I share Dick Ralstin's feelings about those guys who were the backbone of NASCAR in those years. RIP, Dick........
