I hadnt really given it much thought but I heard a commentator say this is sort of a make or break year for the boy.

It does kind of make sense

Has he made sufficient noise since winning the Daytona 500 a couple years back?

That depends on if you're talking Cup or Nationwide. In Cup if he was full time with another team he might have all ready been replaced. But the Wood Brothers aren't going to be able to attract a top line driver for part time duty. They would have to find more sponsorship and probably upgrade personnel to go full time. He's a good fit for the Woods and the sponsorship they have so they can hope for the occasional good run.

On the Nationwide side for Roush he probably does need to step it up or move on. Roush doesn't have the best NW effort but even if he doesn't win Bayne doesn't seem to run near the front very often.

I'll say "yeah" to all of the above. Even though it's a part time team the Woods put a first rate effort on the track. Roush's NW effort was good enough for Stenhouse win the title, so I'd say it's pretty good. Either Bayne starts producing some win in NW and some top tens in Cup, or he may be sending out resumes this November.

Multiple Sclerosis....just might have slowed him down a tick or two.

        Maybe.

Bayne is likely to have a Cope-like career. He will be around but he was not and is not going to be the next Jeff Gordon.

Might be in some real top flite equipment on a real top flite team he could get better results than a (few) unnamed other drivers.

Very well could be, it sure as heck doesn't help matters.

He's a sweet guy facing and taking on challenges in a way above average manner.

I think he sure deserves to have fans and opportunities.

Cup can't have 40 A-list drivers. There aren't that many top flight rides anyway.

Bayne, health permitting, will at minimum be a solid journeyman midpacker, who smaller teams (like the Wood's) can plug in their car and they know he'll drive it competently and not embarrass himself. Plus he's a very good kid, who very few people have much bad to say about.

He's still young, so he's got a lot of career still ahead of him.
