Ban them the rest of the season.

Reinstate Newman into the Chase, do whatever you want with MWR, get rid of the Chase next year.

Add Gordon to the Chase also. I agree with the rest. And as I posted in the other thread, if I were Gordon or Newman, no way any MWR car wins the championship.

No way in he77 they add one or two drivers.

How does one prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that anyone deliberately did anything wrong?

And how do you penalize someone if you can't prove they deliberately did anything wrong?

This isnt like finding a big engine or traction control

They need to prove what someone was thinking

They obviously found the proof somewhere.

Well, now we know: all three MWR fined 50 drivers and owners points, putting Truex out of the Chase and Newman in.

I agree that Gordon should've been added as well. Maybe if the JG fans complain enough......

I would be shocked if Nascar did anything about this. Especially since Nascar is known to manipulate their races as well. I would be pleasantly surprised if they did anything to Bowyer/MWR.

As big of deal as this is, I still think the Edwards situation was just as blatant on Nascar's part. It is indisputable that he violated the restart rule and Nascar virtually looked the other way. Its not like it was a close call. It was crystal clear.
Whatever the right thing to do is.....expect IndyCar to do the opposite.

And as I type that, I hear of Breaking News that Nascar has indeed penalized the team. Truex out of Chase. Newman in. All 3 cars lose 50 owner & championship points. Good job, Nascar.

However I must admit I find this comment a bit ironic for obvious reasons coming from Nascar management: “Based upon our review of Saturday night’s race at Richmond, it is our determination that the MWR organization attempted to manipulate the outcome of the race,” said Robin Pemberton. I suppose Nascar officials couldnt fire themselves over the years.

Having said that, great call on Nascar's part. This was absolutely the right thing to do and I think justice was served.

Absolutely the right thing to do?????? You have to be kidding. Truex lost 50 pts. and doesn't make the Chase. He shouldn't have anyhow. Vickers lost 50 pts. He wasn't making the Chase anyway. Bowers lost 50 pts. He's still in the Chase, same pts., same starting position. None of the drivers are punished at all from where they were prior to the whole charade. Waltrip didn't know anything at all about the crime and is sure it was a spur of the moment idea that was totally Ty's doing:nonoeven though the driver's seemed to figure out what he wanted them to do.). And MW stands by his team. The fine wasn't large enough to deter the same thing happening again, right, MW!:cop

I am not sure NASCAR could do the "right" thing in this case (as what NASCAR considers "right" is usually what they think is best for NASCAR).....

If they were going to do anything, it seems to me that all MWR cars should have been kicked from chase - especially Bowyer, and they should have been docked points in such a manner that they were at the bottom of the full time teams list in terms of benefits from NASCAR. After that just let the slots fill with the next qualified car.....

On the other hand, "have at it boys" would certainly seem to include these tactics - so perhaps they need to let it ride....

alas, they came up with this mess....

the real crux of the issues is that the chase was a noble (or ignoble) experiment in sports entertainment and it is time to move on the the next gimmick, I mean innovative idea....
