But, the crewman, you want him fined and penalized, but not in jail? He committed assault. He put them in fear of a harmful touching but had no chance to do the battery.

You're forgetting about Kyle Busch that was assaulted by Richard Childress. Kyle Busch refused to press criminal charges against Childress. And yes, they should have gone to jail. So the crewman assaulted Max Papis? Where's the link? The video has a lot of people outraged and they want Papis to press charges against the woman. Let's continue letting this go on until someone gets really hurt.

And, Max Papis, slapped Billy Johnson. That is assault and battery. Max should never have been hit because he goes to prison.

Not any different than MLB managers instructing their pitchers to try and hit the opposing team's batters. Not any different than NFL players killing or assaulting other players. Not any different than an NHL hockey player using his hockey stick to hit another player on the side of the head and putting that player into a coma. Reality is that at the end of the day violence, or the threat of it, is how just about everything is solved. Even the legal system uses the threat of a bunch of guys with guns coming around to get you if you stray too far outside the lines.

And just how is it that the United States projects its power and settles its disputes? Isn't the U.S. getting ready right now to lob some violence at some country that doesn't matter much one way of another?

BTW, I can remember attending tracks where fights broke out every Saturday night both in the pits and in the grandstands between family members. It seemed to be part of the show. Nobody ever got hurt too badly and I don't remember anyone ever being arrested even though there were cops on the scene.

There's a retired IndyCar driver that slapped his girlfriend because of an altercation they had in their motorhome at a racetrack and he was later arrested by a police officer. I would have hated to have been the officer that arrested him because I really like him as a driver and person. That driver's girlfriend later dropped the assault & battery charge with police.

Kelly Heaphy, girlfriend of Skeen, has been indefinitely banned from all NASCAR events and was fined $2,500. The article didn't say who the $$ was going to, but I hope it goes to Max and that he would sue her on top of it. He may not get much out of that turnip, but it's the principle of the thing. Max also reported his jaw was sprained, not dislocated, as he had reported. So, that's some good news. edit: Brian Berry, crew chief for the #6 was also fined $2,500.
