I was in the flagstand. As I recall, the car came through the trioval and we spotted what looked like tire smoke from the right rear. I informed the tower and got out the black flag, but he never made it back around.

I think Kulwicki almost won his first at Pocono around that time. I forget who won but he was right there and like Kyle @ Dover a few years earlier, the crowd was going out of their minds hoping to see #7 finally win one
I was hitting both June and July races up on the mountain in those days. Good times

It was the 1987 Summer 500 at Pocono that Alan Kulwicki almost won but was pasted by Dale Earnhardt on the final lap.

God is in the details. Compare the noses of the Hylton car to that of Cale's #28. No disrespect to Hylton, but there's a difference in fit and finish and those differences meant tenths on the track.

What was the story with Trevor Boys and James Hylton? They ran many races under the Hylton-McCaig banner.

Davey Allison was driving her back to the pits after getting on his roof on the backstretch during the 500. Earnhardt wasn't the first guy to do that. He (Davey) had a little shoving match with Bodine after the incident in the garage.
