  • I can't take Dale Jarrett any more!

Quote from Dale Jarrett in today's Nationwide broadcast. "She's three laps down, but she has done a very good job." ............Really????

He's made statements like this before, he falls all over Danica, it's so sickening. It is so obvious that NASCAR would do anything to get Danica to be in their series. I just don't see it happening. She is not competitive. It must be hard to go from a car that is stuck to the ground to one that slides all over the place. Stewart made the transition from open wheel to stock cars, but the guy spent most of his racing days sideways on dirt. He learned the car control that is necessary for stock cars. Sam, Dario, and Danica just have not adapted. And please don't attack me, I'm a big fan of all three of these drivers.

What are the NASCAR shills supposed to say? The truth?

"Another mediocre performance from a mediocre driver in great equipment....film at 11".

At least this year her mediocrity can get her a top 20 finish. Nationwide is down to about 25 legit entries and the depth of talent has dropped significantly in the past year.

BTW, Kyle Busch is so good its frightening. Maybe one day Indy Car will find a Kyle Busch.

Relative to what she's been able to do is NASCAR so far, she did do a good job. Whether it was actually any good or not is another question entirely. I'd say this should be on the NASCAR board.

Her crew chief did say he would consider a top 20 a good day. By that standard, I guess she did do well.

Kylie is just a bully. Good against subpar competition, not so much against the Cup field.

Maybe don't say anything? I'm sure he's told to say great things about her; they don't much care about you and me. They're going for the new to NASCAR demographic.

I can remember quite a few years ago Kurt Busch saying, "I'm nothing, wait until my little brother comes up to NASCAR, he can really drive." Kurt was right, Kyle is amazing!

Well, my first thought was "can we say Money Machine, boys and girls?" But then I thought about all the empty seats in the stands today, in her hometown of all places, and I'm not sure that works anymore. No matter how badly NASCAR wants it to.

Indycar (IndyCar? Indy Car?) has found out that painful truth over the past few years. She does not draw anymore. She was a novelty who could drive a fast oval in 2005. She won one race in 2008, regardless of how it was done or what people think of the win. A win's a win. But even with all that, she hasn't drawn new bodies to seats. PR people only try to say she does, to give the perception that she really does draw people. But the numbers and the dollars just aren't there. So she sells T shirts. She's not selling seats, which in the long run is far more important for the health of any series.

I know this is an Indy Forum, but since Indycar (or whatever it is right now) has already gone through this, we are seeing Danicamania Part 2 in another series. Only this bout of Danicamania is lasting far less time than before. The Daytona Nationwide race ratings spiked high last year - she was there, she was on stage after all her bragging, and ratings naturally went high. This year? The Daytona Nationwide ratings were right back where they were in 2009. Danica did not live up to her own words, or those of her PR people. So, no more new bodies. Pictures are worth a 1000 words, so it's said. The empty stands at the Nationwide races she is in say much more than the words of any commentator. If the commentators want to go overboard with praise for a performance that they wouldn't waste nanoseconds on if it were anyone else, they can go for it. They could very well lose viewing audiences too with the overkill.

                  A top 20 is "a good day"?

Come on, now. Look at the field in Nationwide now. There are only 25 or so legit entries. The rest are start-and-parkers and complete s-boxes with no money.

Tooling around 20th, when you aren't racing for points and you are trying to show your sponsor that you actually "belong", ain't gonna cut it. You could get about 500 drivers out there to do that bare minimum.

Take it up with Tony Eury, Jr. The booth reported that's what he would consider a good day.

He's lying. Either that or their expectations for her are so miniscule that maybe they actually do believe that.

If they want to try and tell us that a top 20 finish (3 laps down), when there are only 25 legit cars out there, is considered "satisfactory", then they are clueless. If that's a good day, then Milka Duno had a lot of good days in Indy Cars too.

Could be. He's probably got a better idea what sort of a hill he has to climb with this project than I do, though.

Dale Jarrett was fine. I prefer him to many other drivers in the booth. Give credit to the TV folks in that this year they have not just concentrated on her, and are more prone now to call more of the field. As far as the race itself went, I thought she did ok. There were what, 12?, cars on the lead lap and most cars were multiple laps down. Take away the lucky dog stuff, and there would have been even more a lap down. Kyle Busch was just dominate today.

Shouldn't threads about NASCAR competitors, their race results, and NASCAR TV commentators be in the NASCAR forum?

So Kyle won a truck race and a Nationwide race. Big Deal. He's running big league equipment against bush league competition.

Put Albert Pujols in A ball and he'd be pretty da*n frightening too.
