  • Texas Back Stretch Stands

Top rows covered by advertising tarps - like at Martisville. At least they are for the Nationwide Series.

Great crowd, but not a great race. Busch stunk up the show.

Yes, there will only be about 200,000 people there tomorrow, and millions more watching on TV.

        NASCAR is obviously in trouble.

looked like a real good looking crowd to me. I don't think I could put a number on it tho. I don't recall seeing a shot on TV that really defined the crowd, but the dogleg/main stretch (whatever you want to call it) seemed to have quite a long string of full (or nearly full) grandstands.

tix to today's race were sold separately, I'm guessing?

Darn, wish the race was tonight so I have some background filler while I do work stuff on the computer, it is better than HGTV my wife continues to annoy me with.

All races at TMS are sold both separately and as part of a season ticket package. The Nationwide Series gets better attendance at Texas than any track except IMS and Daytona if I recall correctly. Also except for the first year, the only races that use the backstretch seats are the Cup races, where they sometimes fill all of them and still have to bring in temporary stands. Eddie is a happy camper.

Nationwide/Busch series has never raced at IMS. They race the same weekend over at ORP ( formally IRP).

You are correct. I got it mixed up with Cup on that point. So that just makes Texas the second behind Daytona, which makes my point even better.

I think that Gossage guy is really trying to put on a big show.

That's Grandstand seating, it not total capacity. (Sears Point has only 35k in Grandstand seating, but they regularly get over 100k for the Cup races.) I could easily see another 10-20k in campers. Do they have General Admission?

There are backstretch stands covered in tarps on Sunday. This makes sense... might as well have too many seats than not enough.

Where you seeing tarps? Stewart just drove by the backstretch and they were seated all the way to the top.
