Al Keller was a pretty good midget driver, back in the '40's, here in the Northeast with the ARDC. I don't know where he ended up, point wise, with the midgets, by seasons, but at Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson, NJ, against the best that the ARDC had, guys like Schindler, Schaefer, Ritter, Tappett, Georgie Rice, Nazaruk, Cross and a host of others, Al had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd in features in 1946. In 1947 he had 4 wins and 3 seconds. 1948 saw him win 5 features with one second and 3 thirds. In overall feature winners at Hinchliffe, Schindler was frist with 30. Art Cross was next with 16. Keller had 10 and Ritter 8. Georgie Rice had 7 while Nazaruk, Rex Records, Lloyd Christopher and Bob Disbrow all had 6 wins.
At Indy, in 1955, it was Al that went into the infield when Rodger Ward had his accident on the backstretch. Keller came back onto the track and hit Johnny Boyd, who in turn got in the way of Bill Vukovich. We all know what happened then.
