Why didn't Sam Run the NW Series Today?
    Natural Born Cynic

What irks me (maybe its too soon for the truth), DW was a 16-oval WIN specialist, yet the vast majority those boohooing for him, hardcarders & fans, alike are the same ones trying to kill anything with more than 9 deg banking & 4 corners, where Dan ultimately made his home...

He wadded it up in quals.

On Edit: The sad part of the whole deal is there were only 2 GoGH cars today. All he had to do was drive a steady lap and he was in. Instead of concentrating on making it in, he overdrove it coming off four, looped it, overcorrected and drove it head-on into the outside wall.

Sam looked out of his element on this one. He had a great car in practice, and would have been able to make a serious impact in this race. Instead, not only does he spin but then looks pretty novice as he made a mockery of a save and drill it into the wall.

He's back in the IRL next year, and you didn't hear it here first.

While neither Sam nor Dario have been setting the world on fire on the NNCS side (both drivers are now in danger of dropping out of the top 35 in 2008 points - a bad outing for either of them this weekend could prove disasterous), I do have to give a big to Dario in the NNS. A sixth place finish today and he's now in 9th place in 2008 points.

He is most certainly not. RP will take the long view on this one.

Plus, Sam isn't a hot road racer.

It helps when everyone decent crashes in front of you.

Just keeping your car in one piece at Las Vegas about got you a top 10.

Sam was still faster than at least one - even sliding sideways across the start/finish as reported on the broadcast. Was he the second one to "go home" or did they not have a back-up car to run?

Had he not cut the wheels to the right - might have ended up in the infield instead of the wall.

Sam was not the only one to lose it coming off of turn 4 in quals. Unfortunately, he did wreck on the first lap of his qual attempt. According to the qual tracker on the bottom of the screen on Speed, he was sitting 5th when he lost it. A short while later Kyle Busch wrecked in essentially the same way at the same place. The difference was Kyle wrecked on lap 2 when he had already put down the 3rd fastest lap of quals.
