To mac or anyone else:
How would you keep a guy like that from racing as much as he does? Granted the chance of injury or even worse is always there, but how can he be mandated to stay away? Same thing might apply to those who go Busch-whacking too.

2 years ago, Joe kept him from doing a lot of the races and TS was miserable and it affected his whole team.
Last year, Joe let him race what he wanted (starting with the Chili Bowl) and it seemed to work out pretty well for both of them.Life's too short to worry/Life's too long to wait
Too short not to love everybody/Life's too long to hate

Thats easy! You write it into his contract........ Look! There are millions of dollars invested in this guy by owners and sponsors and he has accepted millions of dollars to perform as his employers and sponsors require.
If Home Depot has just purchased 10,000 Daytona seats for their employees to see their "champ" race and he busts his arm, the month before, in a little league, unsanctioned midget race, their party is over and they are not happy... he has already created a lot of problems for himself and them with his attitude. He may think that he is too important to follow the plan but I can assure you that, like every other driver, he is just one bad decision away from oblivion.
He needs to grow up and accept the responsibility that goes with the big paycheck....... It may be great fun for you, me and tony to go play in the sandbox with the kiddies but it is serious business to the people who have millions of bucks riding on tony's fitness to perform.
Ask Gary B. how his career worked out when he thought he was smarter than Roger Penske.
As far as nascar drivers running in the busch series, I'm sure you will find that their participation is well orchestrated and coordinated with their owners and the car manufacturers they represent.
Actually, tony stewart's situation has been somewhat puzzling to me... how he can drive for a high profile Chevrolet team in nascar and own a high profile Mopar team in USAC....... seems a bit of a conflict of interest to me???? Oh well, as long as he can keep one step ahead, good luck to him....... but an unsanction serious injury may slow him up enough, that trouble catches up...

Gee Mac, maybe he fully realizes that he has made enough money so far in his life that he can afford to retire at any time. Just owning and running Eldora probably would give him an income that most people would envy.
I retired when I was 28 years old. I went back to work because idleness sucked. Whe I did go back to work, I was in a position to work at what I wanted. Perhaps Tony realizes he can do what he wants and actually goes out and does it.
Does he really owe Home Depot anything? He got his check for last year, he won the championship...what more is there? If he gets hurt before the season starts, I'm thinking his checks from Home Depot will cease, they'll find themselves another driver, and life will go on.
It ain't rocket surgery, it's just cars going round and round in circles.

I think Mac is just pointing out the desirability of Stewart to behave as a professional. There are lots of bucks at stake.
My view is that Home Depot and Tony's other sponsors get plenty of press and buzz from all the "Tony is a racer's racer" talk that goes on all the time. I think they make out ok. Why do you think Stewart became so big? Performance on the track is most of it, sure, but a fair bit extra comes from people always saying that Stewart can wheel anything with wheels.
If I was Gibb's I'd allow it. I expect the businesses contracting with Stewart signed the deals with their eyes wide open.Got to watch out for those Libertarians - they want to take over the government and leave everyone alone!

Mac- are you saying that if a guy or gal get hurt at the 24 hours of Daytona it would be ok because it's a bigger sandbox? How about a bobsled?
I like the fact that Tony and some of the other guys remember who took them to the big dance and decided to go home with the same.
I think he does what he does because he thinks this type of racing should get more respect than it does, and so do I.
He is one of the few left that marches to his own drummer and for some that is not "PC", I like it.
