Memphis, Tenn. – Jan. 10, 2006 – Carl Edwards/R.E. Technologies Racing announced Tuesday that the team would compete in the USAC Silver Crown Series utilizing the C&R Racing new generation Silver Crown pavement chassis beginning at the Copper World Classic at Phoenix International Raceway on Jan. 21-22.
“We did a lot of research looking at the different manufacturers and we saw that the builder for us would be C&R Racing,” said team manager Chris Santucci. “C&R has put more thought into their cars. I have a lot of respect for Chris Paulsen and his knowledge of racing.”
“I am very pleased Chris Santucci and Carl Edwards are on board with the C&R Racing new generation USAC Silver Crown car,” stated Chris Paulsen, President & Owner C&R Racing, Inc. “They both bring a wealth of racing experience and knowledge to the Silver Crown program. Chris runs a very sanitary race team and I'm honored that he chose the C&R Silver Crown car for his team.”
Carl Edwards/ R.E. Technologies Racing team will have Ford power under the hood. The team also announced today that they have selected USAC veteran Jerry Coons Jr. to pilot the new car for the team at Phoenix. The 2005 Belleville Midget Nationals winner has started 44 Silver Crown races for the team.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of getting a feel for the car,” stated the Arizona native.
“Jerry is pretty consistent in everything he does,” said Santucci. “Jerry and the team communicate and work well together. He is the one we want behind the wheel of the new car the first time it hits the track.”
The Copper World Classic marks the first time the new generation Silver Crown cars will race in USAC competition.
“I am just excited to get in the car,” said Coons. “I think it is good to get in on the ground floor of things and be there at the start of the series.”
